Smaggle: How to accessorise an LBD? With a statement clutch and a cocktail ring of course!

One of the traits of Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw that had me utterly fixated was her habit of carrying tiny pots of lip-gloss in her statement clutch bag. She’d apply it in tiny dabs with a cocktail-ringed finger whilst flinging sassy remarks at her Cosmopolitan swigging posse. Most of the behaviours of Carrie Bradshaw rendered me cross-eyed with frustration but the lip-gloss thing? Too freakin’ cool. Also I’m having a hankering for non-obtrusive evening accessories to go with the more detailed of my little black dresses. Today’s mission? A clutch bag and a cocktail ring. Mission accepted.
I’ve had my eye on this fabulous plywood and leather clutch bag from Yanko for a while now but I like to have all the available information before committing to a purchase. As it turns out, hard-shell clutch bags don’t come cheap. Especially if your champagne tastes send you in the direction of Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta or Judith Leiber. At $1000 plus for a McQueen skull sparkler I’ll have to wait until I publish my best seller before adding that little gem to my wardrobe. For now though, I think that my plywood and leather clutch is rather perfect. I went for the paler veneer with white leather interior to match my recent obsession with chocolate coloured nail polish. Delish!
As for the cocktail ring? Who other than Kenneth Jay Lane? I bought his signature turquoise cabochon ring. Although honestly I have no intention of stopping at one. I’ll also need a flower ring, an amethyst cocktail ring and a coral cluster for good measure. I’m usually a jewellery purist and I need my bling to be boasting precious metals but the design and quality of KJLs costume masterpieces just enthrals me. Besides, each genuine piece is stamped and signed. Covetable? I thought so.
Evening accessories sorted. I just need a candy-coloured champagne and a mouthy blonde to match.
What will you be carrying with your little black dress this holiday season? Can you handle a clutch? Or are you a shoulder strap kind of gal?
